American River College's speech/language pathology program prepares students to assist speech-language pathologists in treating disorders of communication. Such disorders may be related to articulation and phonology, child and adult language, motor speech, voice, fluency, and hearing. Curriculum includes communication disorders, articulation and phonology for the speech-language pathology assistant (SLPA), professional issues and practices in speech-language pathology, speech/ language/hearing clinical strategies, clinical considerations in service delivery to clients with communication disorders, and fieldwork experience.
Potential career fields include both private and public agencies, such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and the public schools serving preschool through adult-age clients.
Our cooperative work experience education and internship program is a unique educational plan. It provides students with the opportunity to develop practical skills and knowledge by applying what is learned in the classroom with planned, supervised, on-the-job experience.
Through the program students can earn college credits (up to 16 units) while they work or complete on-the-job training through an internship.
Your work site may be located on or off campus and consist of paid work, volunteer work, or internships. Your employer must provide new or expanded learning opportunities or responsibilities.
